[VIDEO] Mobile phone throwing championship

Ere Karjalainen says drinking the previous day helped him secured victory in the mobile phone throwing world championships with a record-breaking 332 foot throw in Savonlinna, Finland.

Contestants compete in three categories in the annual championships – the traditional over the shoulder style where the aim is to throw the phone as far as possible, the Freestyle category where contestants are judged on aesthetics and creativity and the junior category for children under the age of 12.

According to the organisers mobile phone throwing is a light and modern Finnish sport that combines the philosophy of recycling and a fun spirit.

Since the first competition of its kind was held in Savonlinna in 2000, its popularity has grown with national championships now taking place in a number of countries.

Hammer throwing athlete Jonna Mattero from Finland won the women's category with a 139ft throw. Ere Karjalainen from Finland set a new record in the Finnish championships with 332ft, second place in the men's competition went to Jeremy Gallop from South Africa with a 311ft throw. Gallop won a national competition in England.

Van offers mobile paternity tests - Who's Your Daddy?

'Who's your daddy' van
Fathers in New York wanting peace of mind that their child is really theirs can now make use of an RV truck which doles out paternity tests.

The Who's Your Daddy? van sells its on-site tests for between $299 and $575 (£200-£300).
All men have to do is have a swab test taken and wait a couple of days for the results to come back from the laboratory.

The results can be delivered in the mail or in person.  Speaking to CBS news, the owner and operator of the vehicle, Jared Rosenthal, said that the service is proving popular.

'They flag us down, they pull us over, they talk to us,' he added.

'Sometimes, because of the nature of the services, they want to be a little more discreet about it, but they do come or they'll call the number.' And of course if people don't get the results they want, there can be some drama.

'We have people that want to get the specimen from their spouse without them knowing about it. We deal with a lot of drama. It's constant drama,' he added. However, Mr Rosenthal said that there are also some really happy moments such as reuniting a man with his long lost daughter.

Mr Rosenthal added that there is a 'big need' for services such as his. - Metro UK

Gorilla brothers' emotional embrace captured after three years apart

Kesho and Alf
Handshakes, hugs and laughter were on display when two long-lost gorilla brothers were reunited after spending nearly three years apart.

The pair of primates surprised staff at Longleat Safari Park, Wiltshire, with an affectionate display of brotherly love - having been apart since 2010. Kesho and his younger brother Alf were separated after the elder sibling was sent to London Zoo as part of a breeding programme.

The heart-warming moment as the misty-eyed pair embraced after being reunited, also appearing to share a joke, was captured on camera. Despite Kesho appearing almost unrecognisable, with his weight ballooning by 200lbs, head gorilla keeper Mark Tye said Alf had no problem recognising his sibling.

'We weren't entirely sure that the brothers would even know each other, but the moment they met you could just see the recognition in their eyes,' he said. 'They were touching each other through the cage that temporarily separated them and there were no acts of aggression.

'We put them together 24 hours later and it was like they had never been apart. 'They were very animated and there was a lot of rough and tumble on the floor, but not in an aggressive way.

'It is quite unusual to see that sort of childlike behaviour in a silverback.' Kesho was recently moved to the new £3m enclosure after his attempts to father a baby gorilla were unsuccessful due to him being infertile.

'They have formed a really tight bond and Kesho is actually incredibly tolerant,' added Mr Tye. 'Had they been two strangers there would have been a lot of face-to-face confrontation and some fighting and screaming.

'But Kesho and Alf were happy to turn their backs on one another which is a sign of trust.

'It is great for Alf to have an older brother to look up to and learn from and Kesho seems to enjoy being the centre of attention.

'It was very satisfying to see.'

The pair now look set to spend the rest of their days in the bachelor pad enclosure, set up due to the large amount of males in the current European breeding programme. - Metro UK

Chinese farmer builds himself bionic arms after accident

Farmer Sun Jifa at work
Chinese farmer Sun Jifa, whose arms were blown off in a freak explosion, has built himself bionic arms as he could not afford the pricey hospital ones.

The 51-year-old lost both his hands when a bomb he was making for some blast fishing detonated prematurely, but could not afford to shell out for the prosthetic arms the hospital offered him, instead coming up with his own handy solution.

Sun spent eight years creating the prototype for his own metal hands, which function using a series of wires and pulleys inside the shell, allowing him to grip and hold objects. He said: 'I survived but I had no hands and I couldn't afford to buy the false hands the hospital wanted me to have - so I decided to make my own.

'I control them with movements from my elbows and I can work, love normally and feed myself just like anyone else.

'The only drawback is that steel is quite heavy so they're tiring to wear and get hot or cold in the extremes of summer and winter.'

Having built his own mental hands, Sun no longer sees why anyone should have to pay an extortionate amount to a hospital for bionic arms, and is planning to develop the design for others in a similar situation.

'I made this from scrap metal for virtually nothing. There is no need to pay hospitals a fortune,' he said. - Metro UK

Secret naked swimming club - attempt skinny dip world record

A covert naked swimming club stripped off in Oxfordshire in a bid to break the skinny dip world record. The secret organisation, which originates from the creators of Secret Cinema, descended on Cornbury Park to strip off and jump in the water.

None of the swimmers had met before, however they each braved the chilly water at 8pm on Saturday to swim in a lake near the Wilderness Festival in order to attempt to break a world record. The event also marked the launch of the new Secret Swimming club, which brings people together every month to invite them to swim in wild and beautiful waters, completely naked.
Locations of the event are kept a strict secret until the very last minute, when they are released to the community. Future Cinema and Secret Swimming founder Fabien Riggall told Wired.co.uk that the idea has generated a lot of interest and has proved a hit with those attending.

'When you go skinny dipping late at night on a beach somewhere with a group of friends, it's an amazing experience,' he said.
'It's fun. I think our audience is looking for ways of doing things that are a bit different,' Mr Riggall added. It has not yet been confirmed whether the group broke the world record or not or how many swimmers took part. - Metro UK

Why sleeping on your stomach makes it much more likely you'll have erotic dreams

Snoozing on your stomach may increase dreams about sex, says a new study. Hong Kong researchers surveyed 670 students, collecting data about sleep postures and dream content and found that stomach sleepers reported more erotic dreams than anyone else. They also described more feelings of "persecution," "being tied up," and "being locked up," reports the Daily Mail. The reason for such reveries? Researchers think it might have something to do with the brain getting less oxygen, which results in the sensation of feeling constricted.

"I believe that the brain during sleep is not at all totally detached from the external world," says the lead researcher, "and stimuli, including those stemming from the environment, are probably incorporated into dream content more often than people observe or are aware of." - NEWSER

Syafiq Yusof Bakal 'Filemkan' Datuk Lee Chong Wei?

"Memang pernah terfikir nak buat tentang tokoh sukan.

"Saya tak pernah terfikir mahu menghasilkan filem Lee Chong Wei. Lagipun sekarang saya sedang merancang mahu buat filem tentang anak-anak Sidek (Sidek brothers)", ujar Raja Azmi secara ringkas. - MalaysianDigest

London 2012 Olympics: badminton eight from China, Indonesia and South Korea expelled

The Badminton World Federation took drastic action on Wednesday by throwing eight players out of the Games for match fixing in an attempt to protect the sport’s integrity and preserve its Olympic future.

Four pairs in the women’s doubles were disqualified from the Olympics for underperforming in the final group stages on Tuesday night as they deliberately tried to lose by spraying shots wide or into the net to secure an easier quarter-final draw. The players, the Chinese world champions Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang, Greysia Poli and Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia and two South Korean pairs, Jung Kyung-eun and Kim Ha-na, and Ha Jung-eun and Kim Min Jung, were jeered by the crowd.
The organising committee for the Games will not be offering refunds to spectators who attended on Tuesday evening, despite Lord Coe describing the incident as “depressing” and asking: “Who wants to sit through something like that?”

Officials from the sport’s governing body conducted a frantic round of meetings as they hastily arranged a disciplinary panel. An official announcement of its findings was only made public as spectators took their seats for last night’s women’s doubles quarter-finals. Pairs from Canada, South Africa, Russia and Australia, who had thought their Olympics were over, had to hastily prepare for a return to court in front of a sell-out crowd.

“We found out we were playing at 3 o’clock,” said Michelle Edwards, of South Africa. “Everything was so last minute. We packed our bags, rush, rush, rush and here we are. The mental preparation was almost zero.”

South Africa lost 2-0 to Russia but Australia took Canada to three sets before losing. The episode was deeply embarrassing for the badminton authorities who would have been aware that Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee, recently described match fixing as the biggest threat to the Games. With all athletes and coaches swearing to uphold the Olympic oath at the opening ceremony, this damaged the integrity of the Games.

The stakes were high for the badminton authorities with the prospect of two sports being removed from the Olympics before Rio 2016.

“We are very sorry this has happened,” said Thomas Lund, the chief operating officer of the badminton federation. “The most important thing is we dealt with the issue and did it in the best interests of the other players in this tournament.”

But while the administrators were lauding their disciplinary process the players were firmly pointing the finger at the sport’s authorities. The Daily Telegraph reported earlier this year they had been warned of manipulation when they changed the early stage of the Olympic competition to a round robin stage.

China has been accused of manipulating matches before but only ties involving two sets of their own players. This was more serious because it took place against a Korean pair.
“I have had volunteers really upset — they were crying because they couldn’t believe this was going on the Olympic Games,” said Gail Emms, the former British player who won silver in Athens.

“They have been working so hard to make this competition perfect and they have just seen four women’s doubles pairs not live up to what they believe in. There have been a lot of strong words.”
There was sympathy but also condemnation for the Chinese pair from their own countrymen. Lin Dan, the defending men’s singles Olympic champion, admitted Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang had discredited the sport.

“I think this is not in the Olympic spirit,” he said.

“To avoid this situation is very simple: just straight knock out.”

The scandal began when the Chinese top seeds Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang started to show little interest in beating the Koreans to finish top of Group A. By finishing second they would avoid compatriots and second seeds Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei at least until the final.

“What happened was just truly disgraceful,” said Emms. “This is the Olympic Games — it is not very much in the Olympic spirit.”

- Sumber :MalaysianDigest
