Marrying someone younger 'just makes you look older'

According to a study, marrying someone much younger only makes you seem older in the eyes of others. Being seen with someone younger – whether they be partners, friends or colleagues – emphasises rather than closes the age gap. When someone see a mature man with a woman half his age, they estimate him to be much older than it really is because of the obvious gap, said the study.

By the same token, anyone who wants to look younger should try to be seen with older colleagues, friends or family, the research suggests. Psychologists from Jena University in Germany discovered that a person's perceived age varies depending on the people they are with. They carried out a series of research projects called Person Perception to see how people estimate the age of others. If they see a person on their own then most observers are fairly good as estimating that person's age. And the same applies if there is a group where everyone is around the same age. But if most of a group are old and one person is young, that difference is exaggerated and those trying to guess the individual's age are 'consistently wrong' said the research.

In tests, volunteers of all ages were shown a series of pictures of people who were also of various ages.

In one, they viewed a succession of photos of elderly people followed by one of a middle aged person and asked to guess that person's age. The guesses ranged but most estimated the age as 'substantially younger' than the reality. The age and gender of the person doing the guessing did not make any difference, it added. The findings have been published in the journal Vision Research. Researchers believe a viewer's perception of age varies based on who they have previously been looking at. Psychologist Stefan Schweinberger said: "We are able to change the subjective perception of a face." The study added: "The founder of the "Playboy" magazine might be surprised by these findings because he prefers to surround himself with young women, not knowing that they make him look much older.

Kisah Si Esther Thomas

Ni bukan kisah dongeng atau rekaan semata-mata je..tapi kisah benar. Siapa si Esther yang dimaksudkan ni? ala..bukannya org top melotop pun..hanya seorang paramedik gila shoping. Macam ni kisahnya; di sebuah bandar yang bernama Cardiff dan terletak di England, tinggal seorang wanita bernama Esther yang berumur 37 tahun. Dia bekerja sebagai seorang paramedik. Pada suatu hari, semasa dalam tugas, dia menerima panggilan 999 dr pejabat hospital tempat dia bekerja untuk mengambil seorang pesakit yang sedang tenat agaknya. Namun, oleh kerana sikapnya yang suka bershoping, dia langsung tidak mengendahkah panggilan itu malah menyimpang ke sebuah pusat membeli belah. Dia memasuki pusat itu sambil ditunggu oleh pemandu ambulan di kawasan letak kereta. Dengan berpakaian lengkap sebagai seorang ahli paramedik, dia sememangnya tidak boleh menyembunyikan identitinya. Tanpa disedari, kelibatnya yang sedang 'curi tulang' di pusat membeli belah itu telah dirakamkan oleh seseorang. Dia kemudiannya dihadapkan ke unit tatatertib untuk dikenakan tindakan yang sewajarnya. Sekarang ini, Esther telah digantung tugas sehingga ke suatu tempoh masa yang belum ditetapkan lagi.
