Super's Theory

This is my revision of the day. Introducing the Super's Theory. This is not Superman or Superboy or Superhero's theory okay..this is Donald E. Super's theory of life span and career development theory. This is one of 5 main theories that we have learn in Career Counseling subject. Super assumed that an individual’s career choice was not merely the result of matching his or her abilities and interests to the world of work, but that it was an expression of his or her self-concept. That's the basic assumption for this theory. There are 5 main developmental stages includes Growt (0 - 14 years old), Exploratory (15 - 24), Establishment (25 - 44), Maintenance (45 - 64), and Decline (65+).

Super developed a life-stage model by using a “life rainbow”. This two dimensional graphic schema presents, a longitudinal dimension of life span –maxicycle, Life stages- minicycles, Life space – roles played by individuals as they progress through developmental stages. These include as a Child, Student, Leisurite, Citizen, Worker, and Homeaker/Parent.

So, here's a lil bit aplication for this theory in our everyday's life. According to Super, one's own career can change through a life span. For example, a teacher can change her career to a lecturer or an engineer change to a lawyer. This is different to Ginzberg (another theory of career development) which assumed that one's career can be only determined before someone reach 21 years old. Means that the processes of choosing a career are done before a person reach 21. Actually, Super worked with Ginzberg before he developed his own theory just because he think that Ginzberg theory's have many weaknesses. By the way, i agree with Super too because nowaday i can see so many people change his/her career. One thing we must remember is  career and job are two different things but i don't want to write more about that because it's a common knowledge for us. Okay, that's all for my blog revision today. See ya.
