Bekas banduan cemerlang dalam SPM

Debaran para calon SPM 2011 lalu akhirnya terjawab kelmarin. Ada yang mendapat keputusan cemerlang dan ada juga yang kurang menyerlah. Tapi ini perkara biasa-biasa saja.

Satu berita seperti yang dilaporkan dalam malaysiandigest.com yang agak mencuri perhatian ialah mengenai seorang calon SPM 2011 yang mendapat keputusan cemerlang walaupun tidak bersekolah sejak Tingkatan 1 malah pernah meringkuk dalam penjara.

SHAH ALAM, 21 MARCH, 2012: Former prisoner Zainal Ariff Mat Zain, 23, who stopped schooling in Form 1 and served in prison term, showed great perseverance to do well in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).

He was released from Kajang Prison in October last year after being jailed in 2008 for his involvement in criminal activities and did not attend school since Form 1 out of poverty.

But today he stood proudly with a result decorated by 6As, 1B and 1E, an achievement that even many daily school-going students would not be able to match.

Zainal who sat for the SPM at Sekolah Integriti Kajang said: "Life in prison taught me that only knowledge could change my life and I wanted to clear my name."

"It was then that I decided to sit for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) in 2010 and SPM last year. It was a blessing and I succeeded," he told reporters after receiving his results from Selangor state education director Abdullah Mad Yunus here today.

   

He was very thankful to all parties, especially to teachers and prison officers who had given him moral support.

Zainal from Pasir Mas, Kelantan said he aspires to further his education in accounting and management and hoped he would get the support needed to pursue his dreams.

He also advised other prisoners who may have suffered a similar fate like him, to repent and acquire knowledge that can be used to upgrade themselves and help lead a better life in society.
